Ghent and cycling: two things that just belong together. With its bike-friendly streets and stunning scenery, the city is made to be explored on two wheels. De Fietsambassade wanted more people to experience this first-hand. The goal? To make their bike rental service a must-do for tourists and an attractive option for locals.
Supermachine jumped in with a vibrant campaign, showing that renting a bike is the best way to experience Ghent like a local. From playful posters featuring different cycling personas to an interactive route map highlighting must-visit spots, we gave people all the reasons they needed to get pedaling.
Ghent is built for cycling, but tourists don’t always see it that way. De Fietsambassade needed a campaign that made bike rental feel like an essential part of the Ghent experience: something fun, easy, and for everyone, not just hardcore cyclists. At the same time, locals needed to be reminded that renting a bike could be a smart, flexible alternative to using their own.
People don’t rent bikes; they rent experiences. Whether it’s a lazy ride along the waterways or a spontaneous detour to a hidden bar, cycling in Ghent is more than just transport: it’s a way to explore. By showing different cycling personas and the moments that make a ride special, we made renting a bike feel like the best way to experience the city.
Supermachine turned Ghent’s bike rental service into a must-try experience. The campaign featured bold, playful posters, a bilingual cycling guide with insider tips, and a social media contest that turned riders into ambassadors. A year later, we fine-tuned the campaign with an updated route map and fresh visuals, keeping the momentum going and getting even more people on two wheels.

We kicked things off with a clear, fun brand message: Ghent is best explored by bike, and De Fietsambassade makes that easy. Instead of a generic transport campaign, we focused on real experiences. The joy of riding through the city, discovering new places, and feeling the freedom of two wheels.
The poster campaign brought different cycling personas to life. Whether it was the confident e-biker zipping through town, the adventurous tandem riders on a sightseeing mission, or the cargo bike user hauling kids and groceries with ease, each poster told a mini-story. The playful quotes added personality, making it feel less like an ad and more like an invitation.
For tourists, we designed a cycling guide that was both practical and fun. The fold-out map featured an official Ghentian bike route, covering key highlights and hidden gems. Local cycling ambassadors shared their personal tips, adding an authentic touch to the experience. To make navigation easy, we added a QR code linking to a digital version of the route. Whether people preferred a paper map or their smartphone, they had everything they needed to explore the city by bike.
To keep momentum going beyond the initial launch, we introduced a social media contest. Cyclists were encouraged to share their best bike moments in Ghent using a specific hashtag. This turned bikers into brand ambassadors, spreading the word organically. The incentive? A chance to win a €50 Ghent gift voucher, just for doing what they were already enjoying.
By the next year, the campaign had proven its success, leading to an updated version that fine-tuned every aspect. The map and rental guide were refreshed, new visuals were added, and the messaging was optimized to keep the excitement alive. The goal remained the same: to make renting a bike in Ghent feel like the best decision you could make.
