Have you met Felix

Stad Gent

TL;DR
We gave a Brutalist architectural gem in Gentbrugge a new identity and personality, transforming “De Felix” into a lively character that connects a diverse community.

In short

When the renovated Service Centre in Gentbrugge needed more than just a new name, we stepped in to craft an entire personality for it. Inspired by its Brutalist roots and diverse functionality, we created “Felix”. Not just a building but a vibrant, welcoming character that reflects the life inside.

The challenge

How do you breathe warmth and life into a structure of concrete and geometry? The challenge was to make a Brutalist building feel human, approachable, and inclusive while highlighting its rich history and new purpose as a community hub.

The insight

Great architecture tells a story. We built on the legacy of Paul Felix, the architect behind the building, to create a visual identity that reflected the synergy of the space: a home for learning, public services, and culture. By giving Felix a personality, we turned a building into a neighbor everyone wants to know.

The outcome

A new name, a bold identity, and a friendly tone transformed De Felix into a meeting point for the whole neighborhood.

In numbers

In detail

The building’s design by Paul Felix, a pioneer of modern architecture in Flanders, provided the perfect foundation. Inspired by his love for English Brutalism, we reflected the building’s clean geometry and raw materials in the new visual identity. But we softened it with pops of color and playful design elements, mirroring the lively community now using the space.

To unify its many functions: a music academy, co-working spaces, a library, a citizen’s office, a school, and even a police station, we created distinct design elements for each, strong enough to stand alone yet cohesive when brought together.

But we didn’t stop at aesthetics. Felix became a personality. Through floor stickers, information boards, brochures, and a website, we introduced Felix as a friendly guide to the building’s new offerings. Warm, inviting copy invited locals to step inside, explore, and experience everything Felix had to offer.

De Felix is more than concrete: it’s culture, community, and connection.
